Ways to Enhance your Spellings

Orthography, the science of spelling, can be tricky, taxing and sometimes intimidating. However, if we plan astutely, we can certainly excel in spelling. Following are a few ways to enhance our spelling:

  • Keep a track of the difficult words: It is prudent and advisable to keep a track of the words that an individual finds difficult. Keeping all the daunting words in a single place will allow us to revise them on a regular basis in a structured way.

  • Use mnemonics: A mnemonic is a trick used to memorize a certain bit of information. Mnemonics can be superlatively useful when we try to recollect something. They can act as referents for tough spellings.

  • Learn Common Prefixes and Suffixes: Many English words include Greek and Latin roots and affixes. When we memorize these word parts, spelling gets easier.

  • Aware of silent letters: We need to be acutely conscious of silent letters in a word; we need to ignore them while speaking, but include them while writing.

My Eternally Favourite Teacher

 An embodiment of perfection, Sabiha madam, the English teacher during my school days, is my favorite pedagogue.
